The History of Belhaven, NC

Discover the long and exciting history of Washington and the Inner Banks with this one-day itinerary.

Depart Hotel at 8:30

Begin Historic Washington Walking Tour at 9 am (2 hours)
The Historic Washington Walking Tour will route you through a major portion of
Washington’s Historic District. The cradle of the city, the district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, several individual sites on the trail are included in the register.

Lunch at 11:30-12:45
Cost: $8-$12
Grab lunch in one of Historic Downtown Washington’s many unique restaurant offerings.

Depart for Bath at 12:45 pm. Arrive at 1 pm.

Historic Bath, North Carolina’s Oldest Town (2 hours)
Historic Bath offers a peak into early 1700s history in eastern North Carolina. As the oldest town in the state, Bath was once home to Blackbeard the pirate. During your visit to Bath you can enjoy a film about the history of Bath and tour two historic homes, the Bonner House and the Palmer-Marsh House. The Van Der Veer House and St. Thomas Episcopal Church, NC’s oldest church, are also open for a self-guided tour.

Depart for Belhaven at 3 pm. Arrive at 3:30 pm.

Belhaven Memorial Museum (40 minutes)
The Belhaven Memorial Museum, housed in Belhaven’s City Hall, offers an eclectic collection of items depicting the area’s cultural and natural history. There is no charge for admission.

Return to hotel at 4:10 pm. Arrive at 5 pm.

Leave for Dinner at 5:45 pm

Dinner at 6 pm
Cost: $20 per person
